Yellowstone

Just watched the first episode of this series on ABC HD.

Anyone else catch it?

Simply stunning. Wonderful photography and narration.

Looking forward to next week. I think I'll have to add a stopover at this national park during my trip next year

Fantastic, wasn't it Matt!

Did you catch the name of that "prismatic" lake?

SWMBO kept switching channels every time it looked like some cute animal was going to become something's dinner.

I gave up and turned on another TV.

I just kept looking at each scene and imagined framing it in the viewfinder of the 40D!

I recorded it to TiVo....so I'll go back and get the name of that extraordinary lake.

I had things to do, but kept sneaking a look - especially the wolf catching the mice under the snow and the coyote finding the fish the otter had stashed (not so securely it seemed).

To see the wolf listen for the mice, then jump high into the air and plunge head first deep into the snow - and come up with dinner! Amazing!

It is amazing to think Yellowstone is a Super Volcano and could go off at any time
What a great loss if it did

Also watched most of it .... couldnt believe how beautiful the scenery was, unbelievable photography for sure.
Those amazing snow scenes - spectacular - they certainly get extremes of temperature, and that .. 'diamond dust' falling!! Wow.
Also had to flick channels when animals were about to be devoured
Not a big fan of going to the US as a tourist, but I would LOVE to see that!!

Yes, fantastic stuff, and next week is going to be Yellowstone in summer. Yes, the BBC puts on some stunning wild life films.

Hi,

It is, still active, and well overdue for a big eruption statistically. However there are no signs that a big blowup is imminent, and with present science we should get warning several years ahead.

However when something does happen it could potentially be 2500 times worse than Mt St Helens. The main Yellowstone caldera is about 60 Km across.

I read that we have a dormant volcano area on the Australian mainland around Mt Napier and Mt Eccles in Victoria. These have not erupted for thousands of years but are not classified as extinct.

Cheers

Certainly was a fascinating and superbly made documentary.

Whenever I see shows on Yellowstone I can't help but think of Yogi Bear

Cheers

It was a beautifully photographed program. That whole part of the world is fantastic from Autumn to spring.
However, Yellowstone is apparently, a nightmare in summer: packed with tourists, rabid squirrels and bears that have been known to break into cars looking for grub - with people still in them. So don't feel you're missing out on too much.
