My 127mm APO came with a good quality HUGE case. The case is big enough for two scopes in fact. So now I've modified it to carry two scopes, the 127mm APO as well as my 80ED. Both scopes fit securely with room to spare for accessories. This'll save space in the car for other toys.
See below...
I removed and kept the original die-cut foam, as I want it as-new for possible resale (One day I wanna get a Tak). Removing the existing die-cut foam was easy. It's glued lightly around the top edge and a little in the bottom centre. Just use an old knife from the shed to separate the glue.
I had some grey packing foam cut to my requirements at Clark Rubber. 50mm for the 'baffles' and 25mm for the 'ends'.
I've also got some extra 25mm foam for the sides and bottom which I'll add later to join the baffles together. The final assembly won't be glued into the case and will lift out easily so I can swap between single and double-scope configuration anytime.
If it was mine I'd also add a wooden rib across the box in front of the 80ED so it can't slide to the left. Other than that, looks good and you've made me think about an alternative solution for my 180 mm Mak.
Case project is complete with foam added to the walls and floor. Foam has been left off the walls in strategic locations to allow easy access to the OTAs...
There's even a small compartment for accessories.
