The Sydney Opera House using HDR processing.

Last night I managed to get some time off down around Circular Quay and decided to capture some of the city's landmarks.

Here's the Sydney Opera House captured using the HDR (High Dynamic Range) technique in PS.

Image consists of ten individual frames with exposures ranging from 30 seconds down to 2 sec.

Canon 20D, EF 24-105mm set at 50mm, ISO 100, f/6.3.

Hope you like it, the full size tiff image looks stunning !

Fantastic shot Andrew. Must try this HDR stuff one of these days! I wonder if the SOH folks would be interested in your picture?

The tiles on the SOH roof are sort of off-white from memory (at least as seen in daylight, and probably similarly white to the eye at night?), so I tried Photoshop's 'white point' thingey on the brightest bit of the tiles. Probably ruined the DR but gives a different look and feel to the whole thing.

Hope you don't mind me fiddling with the image, I didn't save it anywhere!

I love it Mike, looks great, and I don't mind at all.
Last night it looked a little dull, not sure if it was fully lit up but all my other single shot images turned out like your version, and I like it like that too.
I suppose the HDR process does equalize the levels so the highlights don't blow out too much.

Thanks again everyone.
I'll post my other shots once I finish processing them.

Hmm, the name Ansel Adams springs to mind. What a beautiful, atmospheric photograph.

Cheers

Hi RB saw this on Roger Clarks site. Maybe we should try a southern hemisphere object. I can send you a high resolution image if you want to try it in PS.

Post that elsewhere and people would think that it was real.

Here are a couple of possibles. The Carina image could be rotated 90deg clockwise.

That's an interesting idea Bert, I'd love to try it, yes send it through.
This particular shot though is a bit too surreal for me.
I prefer to keep the shots in proportion.
If an accurate widefield was taken using the same F.L it would be better, ie both at 65mm.
I would still love a copy of your beautiful LMC and Carina though, send me a link.
I'd love to try HDR on some bright astro targets, you've inspired me to give it a go.
