IceInSpace Interviews Dr David Malin
Hi all
As the first interview in a new feature on IceInSpace, I had the opportunity to interview Dr David Malin, the world-renowned photographic scientist-astronomer, who is also the keynote speaker at IISAC2007 in January.
You can see the interview on the Interviews page on IceInSpace, or directly by clicking on the link below:
IceInSpace Interviews Dr David Malin
Many thanks to David for taking the time to answer my questions. Don't forget you can meet the man himself at Lostock!

Thanks for this interview Mike; I enjoyed it. I think I sat though a lecture by Dr David Marlin some years back. The lecturer visited Kodak here in Sydney and gave a presentation on Film based Astro-photography. Just can't honestly recall his name, however he was from the AAT, and new his subject.
Cheers,
Doug

And also appreciated!
I have to apologise for my long absence from IIS. No particular reason for my absence apart form needing every remaining second of free time to scratch the odd itch!
Excellent interview. very enjoyable to read.

Interviews too! Mike, you put so much work and time in to this site already, and now interviews too - excellent addition. I really enjoyed reading this interview with David Malin, good casual questions.

You asked a good mix of questions Mike and the anwers were both reflective and positive.
David is a very interesting fellow and knows his stuff, he will certainly be very hard to preceed at IIS...
I will need some reeeeeally good jokes I think?

Hi Mike
Thank you for an excellent, thoughtful and very interesting interview. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the transcript. I was at the Qld Astrofest in 2003 when David was the main speaker, presenting his stunning photographs. Just prior to his talk, we all gathered for the traditional group photograph in front of the Stuart Observatory. David and his Wife sat in the front row as guests of honour, so I took several photographs, made a mosaic then gave the finished photo to David on a USB memory stick as a memento of his attendance. To my surprise, David opened his riveting presentation some 30 minutes later with that group photograph! No darks, flats, seams or unsharp masking in sight.
Cheers
Dennis

Nice interview, loved it. i also have a recorded talk that he gave our Astro society when he was launching his book, he talked in depth about his days at kodak. Great stuff,
but you didn't ask the hard questions like How did you stay awake most nights? How often did things stuff up?
and my favourite - whats your favourite colour?

Hey Eddie great to see you again!
Many thanks all for your feedback to this new feature. Thanks again to David Malin for taking the time out to answer my questions.
The next interview will hopefully be only a few weeks away, another famous australian figure...

Interesting interview Mike, well done.
I had the opportunity to visit Coonabarabran several years ago ('99 I think) at the astro fest and enjoyed the tour visit to the AAO guided by Steve Lee. Over the weekend we met David Malin and Fred Watson.
There was a great lecture by Dr Karl too. That weekend was the first time I saw the Andromeda galaxy. Happy memories!
