High Horse
Astro-imaging guru Robert Gendler espoused using different optics to create composite images to give both scale and detail ...well... a while ago now.
It just took me a while to cotton on ....
My take on the technique here

Very, very good Peter...
I'm left wondering what you could achieve if your equipment was located at a better location... ?

Hmmm ... let's see, what superlative haven't I used for a while? I know, .... WOW!
How about some specifics on how you blended? EG: How did you avoid big diffraction spikes from Alnitak?

Very nice Peter, the Flame region is spectacular!
My only criticism is the white line around the top of the Horsehead, looks like a sharpening artefact :/ The detail in the region as a whole is

Thanks Clive...high praise indeed given your discerning eye.
As for a better location... ....I guess I'd spend less time in traffic in the high Chilean desert ...but then again..in H-alpha..even shooting from Pitt Street the sky isn't too shabby.

Thank you Marcus....to answer your question...only the horsie's core field was captured with the Alluna. The rest was RHA data...hence no spikes from Alnitak.
Nothing overly complex here...I simply used a Gaussian blur on the Alluna layer's edge to blend the two data sets.

Man, o man, o man Peter! Bloody superb image, on another level!
It's stupendous in mono, but might you get some other wavelengths? I'm greedy, I know...

A very high impact dramatic image
As Colin mentioned it looks a tad over-sharpened around the Horses' mane at that res though, probably compression artifacts, I'm guessing they disappear at high res?
Lovely rich detail in the flame and an interesting treatment of Altinak too

The sharp edge atop the horsehead is likely a down-sampling effect, as the head itself has higher resolution (being RC16 data) than the remainder of the field (RHA data). I could lower the blend a bit there...then again...
maybe not

Wonderful. The general steamy effects. The sharp detail in NGC 2023.
The horses stamping, their warm breath clouding, in the sharp and frosty morning of the day ...
Most impressive.

Hadn't considered down sampling. So... Where is the Horse high res then?

A wonderful image.
I occasionally blend data from different scopes. Its adds an extra dimension as usually a widefield scope lacks the intense detail your long focal length scope gets. But the long focal length misses setting which the widefield captures so well. Best of both worlds.
Nicely done.
Greg.

Rather than take up too much band width I'll leave it to the emoji !
