Low light camera and meteorites.

As you all know I have a real problem with fast high quality lenses, I want to use them to get images. I recently bouht this on eba.. $14.99 US a 12.5mm F1.3 lens for a 1 inch format (12.7x9.5mm) so it easily covers the 1/2 inch format (6.4x4.8mm) of the Gstar-EX. here is a video before twilight ended. It starts at the top of Scorpio and ends at Sag star cloud. there is also a satellite along the way.
Video 1MB
http://members.optusnet.com.au/~avan...1844(CVBS).wmv

This shows a field of 28x23 degrees.

today I won again on eb.. this lens a 6.7mm F1.3 for 16mm film. It is of the highest quality. Anyway the field of view is 49x41 degrees with the GstarEX and should be superb for taking either videos or sequential stills of meteor(ite)* showers.

Pics below

Tell me if you think this is a daft idea.

Bert

*edited pending self confessed pedantry but it is important to use the correct terms.

Wow nice work there. Could such a lens be used to do similar stuff witha a Camcorder? Or Long Exposure moded Toucam? I am guessing it comes down to the sensitivity of the GStar-Ex.

Regards

The aim is to take a lot of stills or video and then stack all frames with a meteor trail and end up with something like the picture below.

I don't know much about lenses Bert, but I like the idea. Lenses like that would open up a whole new field of imaging for long exposure webcams. I'm certainly interested in seeing how it works out and how you go for adapters to mount them. All you would need I guess would be an adapter to go from the existing thread to a T thread and you would be away.

Sorry should have replied earlier 1ponders the Gstarex has a c-mount thread it can take c and cs lenses natively. It is relatively easy to make a fast lens for a small sensor. That is why point and shoot cameras have such impressive fast zooms.
Here is still from the camera as you can see it is 720x576. It was taken before the end of twilight M8 is just right of center. The integration time was about a second!

Thanks for pointing that out. Can you let me know what is the correct usage as I, like many others interchange the different words without a regard for their real meaning.
I think a meteorite is what you can hold in your hand and if bigger touch.

Bert

And being C mount they will slip ,striaght onto a DMK etc. Given the DMK range will normally do 30 second exposures, I would try one on that.

Thats correct Bert, if a meteor hits the lens of your meteorite detecter, or hits you in the head then it is a meteorite
funny when its camera/lens/equipment terminology everyone seems to carefully get those spot on?
