adventures in deep space dobography

Hi all,

Here's a few of my latest deep space pics with my 12" SW goto.

NGC 2070 - Tarantula Neb and environs
NGC 1977 - Running Man Neb
NGC 1365 and SN2012fr (this one was taken last month)

I was quite happy with my processing on NGC 1365 with such short subs there wasn't much distinguishing the galaxy from the sky glow. I think my processing is getting better, although i am still more inclined to do a couple of efforts in photoshop, and tone it down a bit second time around.

Still, i think i can squeeze some more out of the dob on deep space targets before i upgrade to an eq6.

Thanks for taking a peak.

Cheers,

Amazing what can be done with a GoTo Dob. Great results. I enjoyed the images on your flickr page as well.

I love it when people push the envelope to the max with their gear. That's what makes this hobby so much fun.
Great images mate.

Thanks a lot haha yep - Its all about taking it to the limit! ... then upgrading! ... the never ending amateur astronomy spending cycle.

But I also like to think of it as 'the lazyman's guide to astrophotography' - wheel out the dob, line up two stars, press enter, then attach the camera and fire off snaps - no computer/cords/extra alignment etc required.

Saying that, i'm looking fwd to getting an eq6 with a RC8 (like yours) or perhaps a 10" newt, plus I also think my canon eos is hanging for that too, been running hot on high iso settings for too long ... If it had ears it'd be deaf!

Haha cheers Marcus, I think maybe closer to 250 more shots! ... That's a lot of field rotation with the alt-azi ... But on a small target like that it could be doable if it's smack bang in the middle ... I think I'll have to give it a crack on the next galaxy I go for! Thanks for the idea ... I think
