Help with webcam

Have bought a Toucam PRO 11, which seems to be the most popular for Astronomy, and have ordered a Mogg Adapter. Are there any good articles or instructions/tips etc on taking photos with it through Dobsonian. I have been through this Forum a bit, but lots of threads re Toucams .... anu other good websites?

Have a good browse through the Projects and Articles section of the site.

And then there is the Reviews section to get you drooling over more equipment

Hi Liz

There's a few articles in the projects & articles section to get you started.

Astrophotography with a dob

and when you get more practise:

Planetary Imaging and Image Processing

I hope they help. Most importantly, keep asking questions.

Webcam astrophotography with a dob (no tracking) can be very frustrating, so just start with the moon. Ideally you need tracking to get serious with astrophotography, but learning with your dob is still a good way to get started.

Thank you for help guys, but still having trouble with webcam. The Moon is way too bright with no detail, despite tinkering with focus on scope, and playing with dials on camera adjustments - brightness, gain etc. Toucam nearly landed in neighbours backyard last night : ). Did buy another 'toy' couple of months ago, a Barska digital eyepiece which am having more luck with (attached pic), but will persist with Toucam. Any other ideas to placate a troubled mind?

Nice shot Liz

You should be able to drop the exposure of the ToUcam down to around 1/1000 of a second at least (probably more) to dim the moon down. What capture program are you using?

Well, there are a couple of choices on PC, but seem to be using the Philips VRecord .... and have now adjusted that setting to 1/1000 of sec. I did download that K3CCDtools, but couldnt get pic on it. What capture program do people seem to use the most? Thanks paul.
