I had an idea
Inspired by this thread
http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...293#post501293
I've started a data base of unprocessed images here. (there's only one lonely image there at the moment)
http://www.flickr.com/photos/astro_j...rocessed_data/
Whether you're considering getting into astro photography and want to test the waters before diving into the money pit, or you've been clouded out for the last 4 months and just have to have a processing fix, you can download some data to practice on.
If you'd like to share some of your images with others please PM me.
They don't have to be of the highest quality, just good enough to practice with. Nor should they be full resolution, I'd like to keep them under 4mb. Preferably saved as 16bit .tif files.
If you do download an image to work on, it would be great if you could place a link in the "comment" box to your finished image with a bit of blurb describing how you went about your processing.

JJJ, this is an inspiration.
I have not imaged for a couple of months due to personal issues and I find that I forget the processes if you don't consistently practice and use the skills learned.

Hmmm, they were around 3.5mb when I uploaded them.
I'll look into that.

I think this is a great idea!
I've avoided the idea of getting into AP, simply because I don't think I have the skills, the patience, and the dollars to spend to find out!
But a resource of data, and maybe some tutorials on the basics of processing the data, would make me think about putting my toe in the water!
Cheers
Chris

Jeanette,
Great concept!
Don't know anything about astro-digital processing but I'd like to experiment on the images anyway.

I have a Sky Drive account I set up for the members of our Deep Space Imaging group with this very idea in mind. I put them all into .rar files with the flats and darks to be downloaded to do it all yourself or you can choose a calibrated image and just Photoshop it. These are full rez though. Do you want the link JJJ? I have heaps of spare storage if you need it.
Great idea for IIS though!

Thanks.
There's teething problems though. But it shouldn't take long to get up and running.
I know when I first started off, I would have loved to have had access to this sort of data.

Great idea JJJ,
I was always too scared to go down the astro imaging pathway, because of alot of skills and time to learn.
This would be a great way to start without too much fuss and if I like it then I might give it ago once I get bored with the Mallincam.
Matt.

Apologies. Didn't mean to steal the show - great idea btw. Its not what you know, but who you know.
Also, be sure to check out Jim's processing tutorials. Has some nice work on inverse masks in photoshop. Perhaps a bit "old school" compared to what can be achieved in PS CS4, but still very effective.
