Handheld Jove - 10th of April from Brisbane

I know I'm a fish out of water in this corner of IIS, but I had some fun with my digi camera, Jupiter, and some incredible seeing in Brisbane earlier tonight, and thought I would share.

I rattled off quite a few shots, and as the planet was flying through the eyepiece most of them were very blurry. I got lucky with a few and I have attached two for your amusement. They are not up to the high standard usually posted on this site, but for what they are I'm quitely happy with the results. Might be time to invest in a webcam . The view through the eyepiece was absolutely amazing - close to the best I have ever seen.

Details are as follows:
12.5" F6 dob, 8mm Radian eyepiece coupled with a 2x Shorty Plus barlow and some extra zoom on the camera. Canon A40 2Mp camera with macro and everything else set to auto. Camera was completely handheld so lot of patience used. Seeing was absolutely great

I have done no processing, or stacking of any kind - these are just single shot afocals, so feel free to have a play and repost your results - I look forward to seeing them.

Hopefully the experts in Brisbane were taking advantage of the seeing too and will post images similar to the incredible eyepiece views I was having

wow! They are great Andrew! When do you get an EQ mount for your Dob

I had about 10 min of moderate seeing about 10:30 but the rest of the night has been shocking. Fingers crossed for after the full moon.

Thanks for the comments guys.

Like I said elsewhere on this site - I may venture over to the 'darkside' for brief occasions, but I won't make a habit of it - I'm far too lazy for that. I will do it for some fun and post the results for interest sake...makes you appreciate the excellent results we normally see here though

Awesome effort, and well done, it looks like you captured some detail in the GRS<STYLE type=text/css><!--td.attachrow { font: normal 11px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color : #000000; border-color : #000000; }td.attachheader { font: normal 11px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color : #000000; border-color : #000000; background-color: #D1D7DC; }table.attachtable { font: normal 12px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; color : #000000; border-color : #000000; border-collapse : collapse; }--></STYLE>
