Silly street lights

I have lived in the same place for 22 years that in it's self is hard to believe when I think about it but I digress. In all that time our road has been almost completely lightless now when they are going to divert our road and close it within a year they have put up street lights every 10 feet I fail to see the logic in this decision it just elude's me. So soon my already light poluted sky is going to be worse when they turn on the power to them.
