EQ mount for camera

This is from an old astronomy book. I thought that you people would be interested.
Would this be the way Edward Barnard "motorized" his mount to capture his photos?

No. But I'm collecting offcuts while my other half is building a carport. The big offcuts will become part of the observatory, the smaller ones can be used to have a go at making the mount.
I've got 3 stirrups a bag of concrete and 3 3mt beams as well leftover from the carport so far. It won't be long before I can make a start on my home away from home.

Barn Door mounts

Forget the reference, can look it up for you if interested, but the double arm design is 100% better than the traditional. I made one from aluminium sections in the early 1990's and it worked great with a small 12V stepper motor drive.
Used 50 to 20mm lenses for 10 to 15min exposure. No trails.

FWIW, Made this a few years ago.
Old servos & a little bit of electronics knowledge come in mighty handy at times.

I was going to make a barn door tracker at one time.. but never got around to it.

Now I have my EQ platform, I just put my tripod on top of that.

There's a heap of websites with instructions on how to build a barn door tracker if you want to make one.

There is so much more to astronomy than just looking through a lens. If only I'd taken up this hobby 30 years ago. So much to learn, so many skills to aquire.

Jeanette, Pics don't show it, but I used 2 x 3" Brass hinges. Much betterer than pressed steel ones. L.
