"Look Mum, no hands!"
I know it is obvious in retrospect, but Darren (Wombat_In_Space) described how to fit my Accufocusser handset to the tube unit.
I used to dangle the handset around the focuser on its cord, so it was always getting in the way or falling off and swinging around.
So I was told - magnets. But the trick was to fit them so they followed the curve of the tube. And I was told how.
So I found some fridge magnets on clips (supermarket aisles - you know those hanging things you never notice), removed four magnets. Covered the OTA with a layer of gladwrap. Put the magnets in the right position so that they could be attached to the back of the handset. Careful you don't obstruct the battery cover. Also put the magnets at the top of the tube so the glue can set without the handset sliding off. A nice blob of Araldite on each magnet, then place the handset in place, push down and leave it to set. The glad wrap is to avoid getting araldite on the tube. As it turned out, my blobs of araldite stayed exactly where I wanted them.
Now I can plonk my handset anywhere on the tube and it stays put.
The only retrospective change I would make would be to align the handset at an angle to the tube since the tube is more often at 40-90 deg elevation, rather than horizontal, and I'd prefer the handset to be approximately vertical (in the same way I've rotated my focusser to be approximately horizontal at elevation). But the result is still satisfactory. Thanks Darren.
