THATS BONZA. I was just looking there last night with my partner, we ducked up into perth hills on the side of the road, i could clearly see the LMC and SMC, 47 tuc, and a fair few other things.

I observed what i belived to be the taranchula neb, oooh it was pretty and did well on high mags. i dropped the barlow and 25mm and it took the whole ep up. i had to do the nudge and bump to get it all, but the dark lanes where all clearly visable as was the central star.

I even got 47 Tuc and the other glob that is just down from it into the 5mm range and was able to focus and resolve the stars in that. So far though my partner has clamed 47 tuc to be the best, even though i think the great orion neb is better

Keep up the great work Glen!

Thanks Glen, great pics

Hey Brendan,

Where exactly did you go last night? I am looking for good spot, I went close to York last time looking for dark skys. Some people say there is no need to go that far.

I am not sure if you are the person I met at Malaga shop a while ago, I doubt it, since that guy had 8" Skywatcher and TeleVue 2" Barlow. But you look alike

Anyway, if you could tell me where did you go last night, how far, it would be appreciated.

cheers

bob

hehehe I by chance stumbled apon it, though do remember im a off the side of the road man, there are a few cars and that stuffs your night vision but as you know in perth, all you can see is orion and a few other stars, not even the SMC or LMC. considering this where i was you could see both of them and 47 tuc..... with the naked eye. so ill deal with the wrecking of night vision for a 20 min drive

Its in Glen forrest along thomas road if i remember correctly somewhere around Bailey Road and Moola Road, but if you turn off of the GE Hwy at Hardey Rd onto Thomas Rd, travel down there for a few min on the left hand side just before a corner you will see like a gravel area much like a bus stop cut in. Few trees around but you have East - West reasonably clear and about 40 deg coverage by trees North and South, SCP is visable and so are the clouds.

My sons grandmah lives just down the road thats why i had the idea, to try and find a school oval or something like that so i could get out in the middle of and in darker skys! plus in the light pollution filter though google earth thats in the green/blue area. Happy days
