Milky Way *NEW* - Canon 20D

I managed to borrow a 20D today.
This is 3 min guided shot @ ISO 800 with 10mm Lens f/5.6

Some post processing using Photoshop was done.

Severe glow from Sydney in left corner tonight.

I'd love to try again when seeing is better, I was in a hurry tonight, rain had cleared earlier and I didn't think the opp would last.

Wow, beautiful shot! I reckon GradientXTerminator could do wonders on that left corner, if you like, send me the zipped up original and I'll try and process it out.

Having the mountains in that shot really gives it some perspective.

Maybe you can borrow the 20D fulltime and i'll relieve you of your 300D

to a noobie whose only ever owned one camera; the modded toucam, which is the better camera 20d or 300d?

The 20d, more megapixels plus probably some other better features.

It's also much more expensive.

the trees don't seemed to have moved!

or over three minutes at normal vision, the sky does not move enough to have star trails?

Excellent capture. I think the glow adds to the "artistic" merit of the shot. Sortta marries the sky to the planet.
You gotta be happy with that.

Yes David it has been tracked. You can't guide without tracking. RB what is your guiding setup? Manual or Auto?

If you look closely at the tree branches near the center of the image you will see that some of them are blurred. Probably more from wind movement than tracking though. Even if there was no wind they would still be blurred but only slightly. For that size lens with the trees that far away over three minutes they wouldn't have moved all that far on the chip. If my figures are correct then the camera would have only rotated on the mount about 0.75 deg. (1 deg/4min)

Great shot Andrew, the Sydney glow fits in well with the picture.

Great Shot!! I love wide field with a bit of trees in the mix. I reckon the sky glow kinda gives it character.

I used the Orion SkyView Pro EQ mount, 6 volt Batt for RA motor. Basic polar alignment. At 3 mins with 10mm lens it isn't as critical to guide.<o:p></o:p>
