Just had time for a few shots of M27 low on the horizon. Not the best but a big personal improvement (I attach my previous best! what a shocker! )
Will keep working on focus and I need to touch up the collimation on C14 just a wee bit but I'm still happy I got one image out of the weekend despite the setup not being 100%.
Anyone know what the "right" spelling is for this nebula? Is it with one or two "B"s ? My software says 2 Bs, the NASA site seems to also use 2 Bs but then I also found it spelt with only one.
I'm suspecting its an "American spelling versus Australian spelling" kinda thing.
hope you All had good luck on the weekend. I'll be at it again next w/e weather permitting!
cheers
frank
nice round stars and plenty of detail in the nebula.
There was an analysis of the correct RGB colours for the dumbell a few years ago and the conclusion was that the blue in the middle should be more of a teal green but your image looks great anyway
I believe there is a jet of material eminating from the central star in the dumbell, it comes almost straight out of the image in one direction and protrudes out the back in the other direction, can you see it? If not have a look at Richard Crisps Ha + OIII version in the sepearate post I've made to this forum.
big improvement there frank, bigger scope, slower iso plus experience has given you a boost up in detail. its a low item on the horizon here so is difficult to get good detail.... well done.
Lovely work, Frank. I like the colours.
The second (non cropped) one has some uneven-ness to the background - like just the centre was processed?
Did you do flats etc?
Thanks guys!
Mike (Iceman) the second shot is from 2006 using a C9.25 on my old CG5, shot at F/6.3 including some ISO 3200 frames (how little I knew...the shame of it...)
I think from memory I may well have masked and processed just the nebula at the time. It was the best I could do in 2006, so I'm happy with the progress but there's still a long way to go!
Clive and Peter thanks , It's very low on the horizon, not sure if I'll get another shot at it this time around...maybe next Friday, weather stopped me in tracks all weekend long!
Mike (The Strong one...though the other one is learning Karate so...) Thanks, I had a look at the image from Richard Crisp which does seem to show a jet aimed 22:00 to 16:00 , you have NO chance of seeing it on a shot I took hahaha
Maybe if
a) my focus was better (just built a Hartmann mask for the C14 for next w/e)
b)collimation was 100% (close but maybe just 96% now)
c) it had been at zenith when I imaged and
d) i'd shot at ISO 400
then I'd stand a chance but as it is
I'm lucky I got the little guy at all!
:]
I can see a faintly more reddish partion in my image which might correspond to a part of the jet but the whole jest doesn't show on my shot.
Lovely work there Frank. Colours look great and excellent details coming in from the FL of the C14. Thanks for sharing and look forward to seeing more.
Thanks everyone
much appreciated!
I've been making an effort to keep most of my processing to minimal tweaks (unlike my earlier technique which was quite brutal with the data!)
Hoping to start getting the most out of the FL of the C14 especially when I can image targets nearer the Zenith
cheers
frank
Thanks Satchmo,
I must say I liked the colors of the 2006 one,
I'm happy to be able to get more detail now.
Hopefully with more frames and better collimation as well as processing I can improve the new version
cheers
frank
Thanks guys,
Calin, i have this Friday off so I'll be at the observatory from Thursday night...might even have some Glenfiddich somewhere...
Fred, Thanks!
Though I cant resist....i think it's nebula not nebulae...if I'd posted two images of a person I would have asked "do you know the name of this person" not "these people " right?
