Site Updates: Real Name profile field option

I've added a long overdue 'real name' field to your member profile. If you enter your real name (just your first name), it will appear next to your username within posts. I'll add it to other locations at a later date.

It would be nice if everyone could complete that field when you get a chance so as to have some sort of 'standard' with names on the forums. Needless to say, if your login name is already your real name, this new profile field wont concern you.

It's somehow just plain weird having to refer to people by their login name if you don't know their first name

Cheers.

You just noticed? Really? I think I did that last year. Now I know we're working you too hard as moderator. Take the long weekend off and have a browse around IceInSpace. You're missing out. It's a great site

Good option.
Now please explain the distance quoted under location.
Is that how far you are from me or what?

Now I'm going to look like I have a permanent stutter (stutter).

It's ok, I'll clear the new field again if it starts to bother me.

I've been called all sorts of names over the years and I've answered to them all. People can call me Dog Star or Phil; I don't mind either way. Still, it's nice to have the option of supplying a personal name.

Always thought it'd be a hoot if your real name was actually "Bob", Steve

Oh well!

I was thinking something similar Chris, had in mind to put something like "Thaddeus" or an otherwise complicated and uncommon entry in my real name field, but then I didn't want to be branded as a troublemaker or anything.

Maybe I could change my user name to "the Gargoyle" and have (Steve) after it.

Don't take my comments wrong Terry, I am definitely not complaining, I think this is a great feature and will be well worth the effort for everyone!

Great addition. Personally I think it should be compulsory to either have your real name at the top, or to have it in your sig. It's silly having a conversation and having to keep calling the other party Roadkill or Smeghead or something. It's actually impolite IMO to not put your real name to each and every post.

Cheers,
Jason.
