December Photo Challenge - Entries (and how to submit them)

Entries for the December photo challenge will be posted here.

Subject: Gigantic

How to Submit Your Entry
1. Send your image to photocomp@iceinspace.com.au along with any comments you want placed with your image.
2. Image must be within Image Posting Guidelines (<200k jpeg)
3. Ensure you include your forum name in the email, so that it can be matched up after voting has taken place.
4. One entry per person (as normal).

The Photo Challenge moderator will post your entry and comments in this thread. Please allow up to 6-8 hours before complaining that your image hasn't appeared after you sent it in. The moderator may be sleeping

It's an oil rig you say..... Wrong, it's actually oil rig accomodation. This thing is huge, just look at the tug at the righ rear to get an idea of size.

This picture was taken on a teacher's tour at the Howick open cut coal mine in the Hunter Valley in 1995. Each tyre on the Euclid cost $40,000 at that time. From memory, these behemoths carry upwards of 150 tons.The extrovert in the picture is a colleague of mine who always wanted to pose for the camera.

The Coal export depot at Dalrymple Point near Mackay in Queensland.

This would be quite a number of shovel full’s of coal and would heat the house for a long long time.

Note the number of ships in the background, when we were at the site you could see 38 ships in the bay and we were told approx another 50 over the horizon.

If you think the camera is big, you should see the telescope it was attached to. There is an eight metre mirror sitting in the blue mirror cell along the top of picture.
