Luna and Saturn, 19 Jun 2007

Tonight I dragged the scope outside and managed to snap off a few pics of the moon and Saturn in between getting the kids ready for bed.

These were single images taken afocally with the Dob.

Oh wow, they got really close! I didn't think they were that close!

Very well done, Andrew! With some selective processing you could make Saturn look a lot nicer, too (colour channel re-alignment).

Is this better? I used Registax to RGB align the moon and then I did another RGB align just on Saturn to fix that up.

I'm not bothering to set-up.

Our sky is absolutely clear, but everything up there is twinkling a beautiful red/green multicoloured sparkle show.

Even Joop is slightly twinkling

Must have something to do with the Ice on the ground maybe

when I took my shots they were not that close, would have been good to get them like you did!

Thanks everyone. I almost couldn't be bothered going out to take the shots. It was cold, the moon and saturn were rapidly sinking out of view, it meant carrying the scope outside and setting the camera up just for 10 minutes, and I had to look after the kids. On the plus side, I hadn't been out imaging for weeks so I think that is what eventually tipped the balance in favour of going out and doing it. I'm glad I did anyway.

Good work Andrew .... it's times like these you wish you had a permanent setup ay, just slide that roof off, fire up the mount and away you go ! Mmmmmmm must get cracking on the observatory.

The cleaned up version is just great Andrew, well done!!

Like others, I nearly got the scope out but didnt think they were that close. So I concentrated on naked eye and bino pictures. I'm glad you took the time to set up.
