StarTarg

Has anyone used this?

Small utility that projects a reticle and timer onto your screen over the top of any running program. An aid to quicker drift alignment over a live display from a webcam. At $15US it's inexpensive enough to tempt me to try it.

well if it only projects a cross hair you are better off with K3CCD or Guidedog or such. Still that program looks like it would help. Wouldn't hurt to try.

Thanks, Joe. I'll give them a try. In the meantime I've discovered WCS http://wcs.ruthner.at/index-en.htm which was recommended in another thread. More expensive but it tells you exactly how much to adjust your azimuth or altitude in a single step. Sounds like a great time saver - I've been taking 30 - 60 minutes to get really good alignment eyeballing through a reticle eyepiece.
