My Dob REBORN - Part 2 - Looking Good!

Well its back from the powder coaters and its looking GREAT! Not quite the colour I had imagined (a lot brighter ).

The guy at the powder coaters said that when he found out it was a telescope he made an extra effort to sand the bare metal with fine paper after the blasting so that I would get an extra smooth finish! Not something they usually do. Final cost $70.

And it worked! It has made the scope feel and look much better. The standard GSO finish is really nasty, I would rate it 2/10. I now rate the finish 9/10!

When I got it home I gave it a coat of wax to protect it then set about masking off the holes so I could spray the inside with Krylon Ultra Flat Black.

It took about 1.5 cans and two coats. Its really black.

Here are some shots. I'm assembling it now so more photos to follow once its back together!

And here is it!

The finished Scope. It feels much more like a quality telescope now, rather than a budget one.

Worth every penny.

Now just to collimate and then test focus with my 20D

Sweeeeet Dave, very Sweet indeed!

:clap ::cla p:

I am really looking forward to seeing that "Big Blue Chube" in the flesh, the pics alone are enough to make me want to accelerate my plans to have mine powder coated too.
I was thinking about that as a job for next summer during the "cloudier" period, but considering the weather here of late it may not matter so much.

Nice stuff - I AM jealous indeed.

Thanks everyone! I will have to think of a name... Blue and white.... it could be "Smurf" hehe

Yeah I'm very happy with the result, and I know I keep saying it, but: Its the feel of it which has made the most impact. It now feeeels like a real scope, not a tinny one.

I will be taking it out to rons next weekend Steve, hope to see you there!

looks awesome..

I've only had mine 2 weeks now, but i've had the urge to paint it... I was thinking painting it camouflage, seeing as how it looks a bit like a rocket launcher and all...

might let it hit the month old milestone before i go modifying it too much..

Brilliant look though! Do the pics do it justice or is it even more sweet in the flesh?

Alex

Refurbishing my ex-scope (Davros is now the proud owner) was the best thng I could have done for it. It tunred it from a cheap looking and feeling scope into a wonderful intrument.

I miss it already!

Treat it well Mick.....
