Lunar eclipse from Adelaide

After having my 15 sec, well 2 sec, of fame on the Channel 7 news weather report (in the background with telescopes at Adel Uni) at 6.30pm I dashed home, grabbed my camera, had a sandwich and raced back into the city to take some shots.

As I was heading home there was a fair amount of high level cloud rolling in and when the eclipse started it was partially hidden by the cloud. During the early stages of totality the cloud blocked the moon a number of times but then cleared up thankfully half way through.

I thought I'd try something a bit different to the normal zoomed in shot of the eclipse that everyone else takes (yes I did take those as well though!) and tried to get some interesting foreground. I had planned to get the Festival Centre and footbridge in my totality shots but ended up spending most of the time in front of Adelaide Oval. I tried similar shots a few years ago when it wasn't at the right angle so I think these worked out better in that regard.

#1 It's a six! Taken from Adelaide Oval with the Sir Donald Bradman statue. Nikon D600, Sigma 50-500 at 85mm, 4sec, ISO 3200, f/29

#2 It's a mark! Taken from Adelaide Oval with the Barry Robran statue. Nikon D600, Sigma 50-500 at 195mm, 5sec, ISO 3200, f/29

#3 It's a another mark! Taken from Adelaide Oval with the Barry Robran statue. Nikon D600, Sigma 50-500 at 100mm, 5sec, ISO 2000, f/16

#4 Taken from underneath the Adelaide Oval footbridge overlooking the Torrens river. Nikon D600, Sigma 50-500 at 50mm, 1/2sec, ISO 2000, f/6.3

#5 Nikon D600, Sigma 50-500 at 500mm, 1/2sec, ISO 2500, f/6.3

#6 Just before totality. Nikon D600, Sigma 50-500 at 500mm, 1sec, ISO 800, f/6.3

#7 Overlooking the Festival Theatre and Adelaide Oval footbridge before totality. Nikon D600, Sigma 50-500 at 50mm, 1sec, ISO 400, f/6.3

Thanks Bob. Yes I have! Amelia asked me last night to send any into her after doing the weather segment at Adel Uni. So we'll see!

Hey mate well done. I had thought to go into Adelaide like yourself but in the end headed out north east. One of my shots is on 10 news tonight, so get in quickly to get your shot on 7 news.

Goodo! We could do all of the news services! Haha. I just got an email from the weather lady at channel 7 and she said they will now be running a full story so she has passed mine on to that journalist so fingers crossed.
