This is just 9x4 min of each of RGB.

Just a test for a rather large mosaic.

Very cool Bert. So much going on. An amazing FoV with your set up. Looking forward to seeing your mosaic result. Another clear night ahead. I do wonder if you could extend the mosaic large enough to capture the stellar tidal stream (or the bridge in simple terms) between the SMC and LMC. Now that would be uber cool at the focal length you are operating at! May require some tricky processing to bring it out.

Here is 9x16 min in 3nm NII of the same area. Processed to show down to the noise.

Full res image 13MB

The aim is to make a large mosaic in blended RGB and NB of the whole galaxy.

As usual weather is the limiting factor.

At least the optic train is now very stable and stars are 'good' to the corners.

If anyone wants to have a play. Here is the NII stack at 1.5 times native size. It has only been corrected for darks and flats.

29MB

Thanks as always for letting us play with your data Bert.

Here's my attempt at processing your NII data.

I'm sure others can pull a lot more out but I tried to play it safe and make sure I didn't clip anything (in the TIF anyway) or burn any detail out. It's very easy to compress the levels such that you lose detail in that bright Tarantula core.

Cheers,
Cam

Here is 21x16 minutes 9MB

http://d1355990.i49.quadrahosting.co...P1_NII_21f.jpg

As you can see it has far less noise.

This is an animated gif of the same small area of 9 frames versus 21 frames. 2MB

http://d1355990.i49.quadrahosting.co.../lmc_9vs21.gif

No matter what your system is, more collected frames will always have less noise in the final stacked image.

Here is the fit only corrected for darks and flats for the 21 frame stack to have a play with. 27MB

http://d1355990.i49.quadrahosting.co...1_NII_21f_.zip

The two images below are the crops of 9 frames and 21 frames as jpgs.
