IISAC Lagoon nebula

Hi All

Here's my first attempt at capturing the Lagoon nebula.

Shot at IISAC on Saturday night @ F2 with the canon 60Da/hyperstar lens on C11

I'm not to happy with focus I need
to get a feather touch micro focuser for the scope, should definitely help.

I had fun anyway

10 x 15 sec subs
23 x 30 sec subs
10 x 40 sec subs

All @ iso 640

Stacked in DSS processed in Pixbuilder.

Jeez that's a nice field of view Rod....

A good result for such relatively short subs, you may have been able to push the ISO further and still not get too much noise.....? I used to do 3 min guided subs with the 1000D at ISO 800 when it was relatively cold like at Lostock.

Keep em coming. I remember dropping by when you were grabbing this set, I think in a semi drunken stupor.....

Cheers

Chris

Thanks Chris,

I actually cropped this down too. Two reasons, one the field of view produced by the hyperstar lens and the DSLR sensor, creates some coma on the edge's, even with the edge HD optics, (I haven't done any prime focus imaging yet , Im guessing this is where the flat field optics kick in)

and Two,.... after checking the subs here at home I found that I had half the Trifid in the field of view as well. An astro photographer that knew what they were doing would have framed both nebula's and had a nice image...but not me I'll try this again down the track.

Thanks for the tip re the iso , Ive got the CLS filter now too, so I should be able to crank it up a bit here at home too.

Your right, you were here for this one , I loved your advice about taking an hours worth of data and conquering the planet cracked me up.

Cheers mate

NIce Pic, what did you think of PixBuilder as a processing application?

Thanks Brent.

Yeah a found Pixbuilder after reading your post in the software forum.
Thanks for sharing

I was after something cheap/free to start with. I find it easy to use, I'm not at all experienced in post processing, I mainly adjust levels , curves and colour saturation and prey for decent subs to start with

Saving my coin for Pixinsight, I think . I've watched the videos and it looks good. I have never used photoshop , so I think the learning curve of starting pretty much straight up with Pixinsight will be ok.

But for freeware and for anyone starting out Pix builder is very good

Looking good Rod. You got some grea contrasty dust clouds going on in there. Such a delight to take a tour around.

Thanks Steve. I think I just need to get more data per object, may even start guiding to get longer subs on fainter targets, even with the Hyperstar.

I was just excited to get around to different objects under the dark Lostock sky.

Decided to have a go at re processing the Lagoon, mostly to try to bring out some fainter data and to give the colour a tweak.

And because its cloudy. Been a while since the scope has been out (without moon)

Cheers
