LP Filters required for Bortle 3 skies?

Hi all,

I'll be spending the next week on the South Coast of NSW under Bortle 3 skies and was wondering if I need to use my LP filters?

Hi Rene

I don't bother with LP filters, no need.

But you might want to bring a rain and cloud filter.

The forecast is not encouraging :-(

Rene,
I image and observe on the south coast near Ulladulla, definitely don’t need LP filters down this way, I’m up the road from Peter ( Bortle 3 classification)
For observing with my 12” Goto dob I sometimes use a UHC filter on nebula targets like Carina , Lagoon , Eagle , Swan and others

For imaging I use a OSC ZWO Duoband filter between first quarter and last quarter moon on nebula targets only. You can get away with no filters on globular clusters and the like. Galaxies obviously need the dark with no filter

Cheers
Martin

just a UV ircut to reduce star bloat would suffice
