Hi all,
I was wondering if its worthwhile getting a GSO newtonian coma corrector for my f/5 scope with a cropped frame (450d).
I've read that it wont make too much difference unless I use a full frame camera.
Also im looking at getting a clip in H-a filter but again I've read mixed info on these. I have a modded 450d but will the filter make much difference on what im already imaging?
Cheers

I’m currently using a Baader MCCP mkIII in my Canon 600D crop frame and GSO Bintel 8” f5 newt
Works really well , check out my image of Omega Centauri posted today ( no coma )
My previous 6” f6 Scope always had coma issues, I don’t know why I didn’t buy one sooner
I’m outside now imaging the Jewel Box before the clouds roll in at 10pm
Cheers
I am using a Baader MPCC on my 130 Vixen Newt. When I was imaging with a full frame sensor before I got the CC, my images liked like they were in warp drive the coma was so bad. I started using a APSc sensor ( for other reasons ) and although the crop got rid of the worst of the coma, it was still quite significant. Now using the MPCC the results are night and day. Admittedly I got mine as part of another deal so I didn't pay full whack for it but I'd certainly recommend it if the budget allows.
As far as the Ha filter. I had this discussion with another IIS member and he brought to my attention the gaps in the image that would be created if only the Red pixels on the Bayer were being activated due to the filter. I am going to go for a " narrow band " setup with my DSLR but I think I'm going to go for the STC duo instead which is 2 narrow bands ( Ha and O3 ) in the one filter. At $500, it isn't cheap but I figure it's not far off 2 seperate filters with the added bonus not loosing data on 3/4 of the matrix. Happy to be told I'm wrong if the way I'm thinking isn't right.
Like Ryan. My 8" F5 scope is like warp drive without the coma corrector on an aps-c sized sensor. I'd have to crop half the image at least to get rid of it.
Get one. You won't regret it. Get it second hand and resell it if you're not convinced
Thanks Martin, Ryan, and Chris.
Sounds like coma corrector is a must.
Been so busy lately I havent time to respond to posts let alone get outside among the stars!!!
Where does time go..?..
Great images of Omega and Jewel box Martin.
Thanks for helping me again.
