Exclamation Queensland Astrofest 2024 has been cancelled

The Queensland Astrofest 2024 has been cancelled.

I was authorised by the Registrar (Tony) to make this announcement.
Tony will send an update out within the week.

To the mods, could you please leave the message in the "General" section for a while as it is important to get the information out. In can be moved back to the "Star Parties" section later.

That's disappointing but not entirely unexpected.

I was looking forward to it as I am sure were quite a few others,

It should not be forgotten however that a great deal is owed to those who have given so much of their time and energy to plan and run these events in past years.

Sad that it won’t be on this year but very thankful for the enormous amount of work that has been put in over many years by the vollies and organisers.

That's sad, I was looking forward to coming this year.
As a former committee member of the early years of AstroFest,
I can concur at the work put in by the organizers of years past.

Hi everyone,

Firstly thank-you Brendan for assisting the committee with this notification.

It is very regretful that we have had to cancel the Queensland Astrofest for 2024. There were a number of issues that contributed to this decision, many relating to health and logistical reasons. The main logistical problem would be turning around after the 2024 event and be able to hold the 2025 event in May 2025.

It has been requested many times to hold the Queensland Astrofest at another time of year so that we may see another portion of the sky for the long term attendees. One of the biggest problems with change the date range is the weather in South East Queensland. We intend to hold Queensland Astrofest 2025 (QA30) from Friday May 23 to the morning Sunday June 1.

Once again we would like to apologise for the inconvenience and the late notification.

👍 Already looking forward to 2025 Astrofest. I’ll book in for the whole time. If there’s any way I can volunteer to be of any help I’d love to know how.

The late May date gives a good opportunity to image / view the galaxies in Leo, Virgo while still being able to view the "classic" Astrofest skies later in the night.
