One thing that is really great with a wooden deck you can run most of the wires under it. Here we are ready for drift aligning. Hope to get some decent data later.

I m really surprised how quickly I got the mount aligned. I am sure now that without a solid base the mere act of adjusting moves everything. You end up chasing your tail!
Would you believe unguided ten minutes and no visible movement!!!!????
I will keep checking.

Bert, don't forget that every small furry and possibly endangered creature that passes through your garden will have great delight in taste testing anything new.

Regards,

Greg.

Greg I have native rats and possums and many birds lizards etc. I have only had problems with wires being nibbled in the roof by rattus rattus. I have a constant elimination program for these that will not impinge on any native animals. Point taken though.

I feed my possums the odd bit of bread when there is little food about. One night at about 3AM I was focusing and turned around and there were three possums on their haunches in a line about a meter away looking at me. When I moved towards the house they followed me and waited for their bread all in a line on the steps behind the back door. One even ventured inside! I think since I am out so often at night that they have just got used to me.

That problem is easily eliminated by running your wires through tubing, keeping your data and power separate.

Cheers

Wouldn't hurt to put the wires underneath in conduit though Bert, I know rattus has a habit of popping up where you least expect. I've seen the little mongrels chew through cables inside walls and large conduits, they even chew through silicon grease filled fibre optic cables.

With a resident Jack Russel dog and chemical methods I don't think I will have problems with rattus rattus. The last thing I want to do is ever again feed cables through conduit. The hard part is getting those pesky connectors through the tube.
Thanks for all your advice and concerns. We shall see.

Snakes make life easy.
Not the bitey/killey kind, the fibreglass kind.
You could use anything semi-rigid that won't snap easy, like a coil of fencing wire or something.
Feed snake thru conduit, attach cables, pull snake+cables thru conduit.

edit: For connectors(as long as they will fit thru) tape them into a bundle around the snake to stop them folding back and locking up in the conduit.

Bert, 75mm stormwater pipe with push on end caps, exit glands can be fashioned from old push bike innertubes.

Regards,

Greg.
