If speed really is the thing then try a good used Canon or Nikon or other 300mm f/2.8 fullframe lens at a similar-ish price if you look around.... and if you want to use a smaller than FF sensor then you could even try a Metabones (original or clone) 0.7x reducer on top of that.
Or go crazier still with a 400mm f/2.8 with a fully corrected FF image circle and then add a 0.7x reducer which would result in an effective 280mm f/2 equivalent and an approximately 30mm (reduced) fully corrected (APS size) image circle.
