Tone Mapped Narowband.

Just a heads up for anyone playing with narrowband images. I came across what's called a tone mapping technique for narrowband images here and have run a couple of older images though it with real improvements in image content.

Here's a crop of the prawn I did a while back and was never happy with as so much seemed to be missing. Also attached is a repo using tone mapping. A whole lot more just became visible. Try it out.

Hey Robin, wow...what a difference that processing makes. Shame it won't work on RGB, good pickup!!

Came across this but could not pull it off so well done a vast improvement. A bit too strong though perhaps combining the 2 images with opacity. This technique really lifts faint detail.

John.

It realy seems to help where one or 2 of the channels are short on signal. I tried it on that rosetta and it really only lifted it a little but it did lift it.

Sorry Geoff, not much chop on RGB, I tried it and layered star colour over the top but got no object gain at all, just wierd coloured stars

Thanks for the pointer, Robin. I'll give it a go some time.
