Arrow Dob Super Sliders

Fitted my Super Sliders on my dobbie base today. Not bad at all. Heaps better than the roller bearings.

Here is another shot.

I only included this one to give my Rugby League Club a free plug! LOL. Do you like my signwriting efforts?

Hey Mark,
Are you using anything for the upper surface or just the dob box as it came. I haven't used anything and it works good. Some have said to use textured laminex!

Hi Ken, If it works O.K. why change it? You could try 'Ebony Star' Formica/laminex, but it's a bit pricey. You may have to buy a full sheet. Still, you can always sell the leftovers to others who want to mod. their t'scope. L.

Yeah! I could break up the leftovers and put the pieces in an envelope then post them to whoever wants some LOL

But I thought you were going to hold a 'far west star party', later in the year. Might get a buyer there. L.

As milk bottle washers are thin , you can fine tune the azimuth motion by adding the right number of washers to adjust the weight distribution between the centre pivot and the outer pads.

Got it sorted... ended up getting a pack of the larger teflon sliders from bunnings.. using 1 slightly shaved teflon slider and a couple of milk washers for the centre bushing... works well.. slightly better than a stack of milk bottle washers alone... also sprayed some wd 40 onto a cloth and wiped abit on the teflon and that improved it abit more.. i was also having issues with the centre bolt coming loose as i spun the dob around.. solved it by putting a milke bottle washer underneath the metal washer and now the base spins freely without catching and loosening the centre bolt.

I think Armorall would be better than wd 40.

Cool El.

For my centre one I just hand-pushed a drill through it. It was almost a perfect fit so it didn't take much (but you have solved that problem).

As for the centre bolt, I just leave it a bit loose now! No need to have it tight anymore since I fitted the teflon sliders.

Actually, don't use Armourall , WD40 or anything except Mr. Sheen. Armourall and WD40 type products actually attract and trap dust and it eventually turns to Gluck!

Mr. Sheen gives a dry waxy slippery surface (and it's good to stop your OTA from rusting too!).

If it stays dry, Cool. If not, it will be another Gluck creator. Is it slippery?

It certaily is, they use it in fishing reels and small stuff where you don't want it to gunk up. and it is waterproof! But test it on animals before you use it on the scope!
