The Skywatcher ED80 scope case - mini review by houghy

Well It had to come, it needed protection so i bought the ED80 a scope case from myastroshop (plug - only because i bought it Steve ).

Ok first thing - I ordered it and it was delivered the following day - now for others living further away from Sydney it may take longer. But the service and the fleecing of the money was great .

The Scope case came well padded in a thick cardboard box, since been recycled. Upon opening of the case there were two useless keys within for the locks on the case itself. Don't think I will ever use them but you never know .

the following pictures are self explanatory. but my gripes are that the 1.25" adapter must be removed for the scope to fit and the tube skewed to squeeze into its holding spot, apart from that it a solid looking case that will protect the scope from bumps and scrapes going to and from your favourite observing spot. It also fits nicely into the cupboard. The handle is very comfortable and I reckon you could easily walk a fair distance if you had to carry it, it is padded on the inside.

Overall I rate the case 7/10 . Foam and fitting could have been better. but for the money i couldn't do better. I tried to buy a toolbox the same size and get foam cut to put in it. It would have cost me $96 (26 dollars for the foam that I would have to have butchered for it to fit) . Ok so I paid more but I received a spiffy looking case, sure to be a talking point, and something specifically for the scope!

Only my opinion, I have no affiliation with Steve or his shop. i am sure that most Tasco resellers would stock or be able to get this item. But Steve does do good deals!

EQ6 bag may be next, but costs that have been obtained so far make it very expensive. Tony, I will never be in your league mate;-)

It looks remarkably like a trumpet case!

I am picking up an EQ3-2 mount from Steve on Saturday. Might count my pennies, and see if I can stretch to that case too! Thanks for the heads up, HOughy!
