That looks fantastic Narayan!

I know Geoff (starkler) was wanting to make one of those himself, so your picture might spur him on.

Do you have a writeup/pics of the construction? It would make a great how-to.

Unfortunately it has to be dis-assembled for transport , but is not too hard as everything is held together with machine bolts

Mike:

before I do a write up I'd like to do some field trials..wouldnt want Geoff to go chasing down the wrong path

looks OK so far but I couldnt really test it last night..but already I can see some improvements that might need to be made

so the short answer is yes I will do a write up and post some more pics but after a bit more testing

Hi Narayan,

Looks good. Well done. How much does it weigh, and what's the maximum sized binoc you think you could use?

Cheers,

Brian.

Looks good

I was thinking more along the lines of making a bino head to fit on top of a lightweight wind up tripod. Something light and easy to throw in the backseat of the car.

I am not sure how much it weighs but its not very heavy at all

so far I have only tried my 7 x50s but my 12 x 60s should be a cinch

think my 20 x80s will be too heavy but have yet to try

Geoff

here are some options

http://stargazing.com/bino/

if you want to make the mirror mount-I have a spare first surface mirror-its only small (from memory its 3 inch by 6 inches) so it will only work for a 7 x50 binos -or any aperture below 50 mm-and you can have it for free if you want it

Ok tested the mount with my 12x60s last night..needs some more work..maybe a virtual counterweight of some sort for the actual bino base..need to think this one through

also found a couple of things I would change if I were to do it again..for something that I didn't sit down and draw any plans up but sort of made up on the fly its OK

works fine for 7 x50s though..

but could be better
