Canon 450D purchase

Hi All,
I am in the market for a Canon 450D and wondered if any IIS forum members had any experience in dealing with purchasing cameras from Expert Ifotech LTD. They list an email address but no phone number.
They have a postal address in Melbourne, seem to have a good range of gear at competetive prices but have any of you dealt with them?

Regards
Trevor

Hi Trevor,

I haven't personally dealt with this particular company before but others may have.

If you haven't already, check out this website. They sell the 450D for a great price.

Thanks Matty, seems to be quite a large range of prices. Have seen the body only from $768 to around $1000.
But not sure how reliable some of these sites are.

I've bought a 450D and a 40D from Expert Ifotech without any problems. Once your transfer clears the banks, the camera is sent FedEx from hong kong to your door. Not to sure about warranty, I did ask and they said the camera would have to go to NZ for warranty. I modified the 40D so no warranty anyway

Hi Trevor,

I decided to purchase mine (450D plus 18-55mm IS Lens Kit + 8GB) from a Sydney based eBay dealer with 100% feedback, and have been very happy ... good comms, and received by express courier next day with full Aust warranty.

The dealer was oz_digital_online, and below is a link to the package equivalent to what I purchased:
http://cgi.ebay.com.au/NEW-Canon-EOS...742.m153.l1262

My pay to compare prices.

I now steer clear of getting expensive items shipped from Hong Kong after a protracted bad experience from Malaysia a few years ago (purchased a "new" Fuji camera which turned out to be refurbished and defective). Reimbursed by PayPal, but lots of hassle.

Happy shopping.

Never heard of them.

My 40D came from Paxton's cf my insurer. Got a very good price (for an Australian retailor).

I'm looking to get a big fast IS L glass zoom , and 2x converter from one of big retailors in the USA sometime soon .... looking for the AUD to get back up near parity with the USD. (Have the $ set aside and just waiting and watching now.)
The prices here on Canon lenses is extortionate and I refuse to pay such highly inflated prices as are expected here.

I am reluctant to deal with HK based resellers.

Their $1,999.00 for a New CANON EF 70-200mm f/2.8 L IS USM is getting close to my target price . But I don't like the idea of shipping by courier (too much risk of getting lumbered with GST and other charges that would likely not be incurred by post.).

Another vote for d-d photographics, excellent to deal with and if you're in Sydney you can visit their premises at N.Syd.
I believe they also have a place in Brissie.

Thanks, Andrew, Ian, Jeff, Robin & Matt.
While researching Canon EOS Lenses I came across this excellent and most informative sit on Canon EOS Lenses

http://photonotes.org/articles/beginner-faq/lenses.html

I have decided on the 450D with a Canon EF 17-85mm F4-F5.6 IS USM lens.

Call me old fashioned but I feel much more comfortable about being able to at least talk to the supplier by phone, than purchase from a faceless site on the net. We have one supplier in Broken Hill that I will give the opportunity of matching dd digitals price othwise I will order it from Sydney.

Thanks for the help
Regards
Trevor

Congrats Trevor and what a great price as well.

Looking forward to see what you can do with it.

Do you know how you are going to attach it to your scope?

Congrats Trevor, sounds like a great camera.

Are you going to get is modded to improve deep sky H-alpha response, or keep it original?

Hi Matt,
I have an off axis guider that I used for 35mm film photography. I will have to make up an adaptor to fit the camera body onto that.

How do the Canon lenses fit the camera body, are they threaded, bayonet or something else.

Regards
Trevor

Hi Jeff,
I would like to see how it performs stock standard on a 16" F4.5 scope.

Regards
Trevor
