Technically its a mistake - but I like it!

20 images of SHO at 300s each should have given a great result for IC2944.
Mistakenly I had my gain down at 0 and the only way to get an image was to really push it...
In the end I had a mess, but when I cropped it and had a look... I like it!
This reminds me of looking into the underwater of a forest stream with the first milky white melt water from winter. Already the soft algae is growing, bits of muck run past and the whole scene wobbles like a jelly as the water rushes by.

Just my imagination, but certainly something I did not expect to see!

Nothing not to like about this!

You would also be reassured to know that having the gain down doesn’t really change the data. If you check out the ZWO Website and scroll down to camera performance you can see what’s happening as you increase the gain. At 0 gain you have the highest amount of dynamic range, the most noise and by far the largest pixel well size. Increasing the gain is like turning up the volume. Apart from a decrease in read noise (which is the main reason for increasing gain), the data doesn’t change, you’re just turning up the volume.

Agreed Mark that the image does have an underwater nautical theme to it. I’m kind of expecting to see a marine creature swim past whilst I’m watching the screen. A very good result in the end
