CWAS David Malin Awards - Entries now open

The Central West Astronomical Society is proud to announce that the submissions for the 2012 CWAS 'David Malin Awards' are now open.

The deadline for entry submissions is mid-night on Friday, 15 June 2012 (AEST).

The theme for this year's Open Themed Section is "Symmetries". The intention is to encourage people with vision and imagination, using simple equipment, such as a tripod and ordinary camera, to make attractive images that evoke interesting symmetries in the night sky.

Anthony Wesley wins The Berenice and Arthur Page Medal

Long-time IceInSpace member Anthony Wesley (aka 'bird') has won the presitigous Berenice and Arthur Page Medal. The medal is Australia's highest honour for achievements in amateur astronomy and is awarded by the professional astronomers themselves as judged by the ASA.

To quote the judges:
"The medal will be awarded to Anthony Wesley for high quality observations of the Jovian and Saturnian atmospheres and the discovery of an impact cloud and an atmospheric flash on Jupiter from superbolide collisions"

IceInSpace were the first to announce and cover Anthony's first and second impact discoveries. Congratulations Anthony - winning this award is a tremendous achievement and so well deserved for his many many years of dedication to the craft.
