Improve your Night Sky Photography, and more!

The very talented Phil Hart has released a new eBook, Shooting Stars - How to Photograph the Moon and Stars with your DSLR.

It's full of tips, tricks, techniques and ideal camera settings to help you start taking better photos of the night sky.

The book is a must-read for beginners and experienced photographers alike who want to capture the beauty of the night sky, including Star Trails, Twilight Landscapes, Night Sky Scenes, Time Lapses and more.

In fact, if you like this week's and last week's IOTW, by reading this book you'll learn techniques to take shots just like that.

I've done a review of the book here on IceInSpace:

CWAS David Malin Awards - Entries now open

The Central West Astronomical Society is proud to announce that the submissions for the 2012 CWAS 'David Malin Awards' are now open.

The deadline for entry submissions is mid-night on Friday, 15 June 2012 (AEST).

The theme for this year's Open Themed Section is "Symmetries". The intention is to encourage people with vision and imagination, using simple equipment, such as a tripod and ordinary camera, to make attractive images that evoke interesting symmetries in the night sky.

For more information on the competition, the conditions of entry and to access the submissions page, head to the CWAS David Malin Awards page.

The 2012 CWAS "David Malin Awards" are proudly supported by CSIRO's Astronomy and Space Sciences, The Powerhouse Museum and Canon Australia.
