Solar Activity 18th Aug

Now we're really in winter! This week is cold wet and windy.
Just before the weather hit managed to get some Ha and CaK images.
The AR2771 is more of a disturbance than a feature. If you look closely near the middle of the image you'll see a dark spot with a "ducks foot" filament structure....
Some interesting proms.
Enjoy!

Great results.

I've just popped out and had a squiz. AR2771 had developed into a lovely sunspot cluster. One for tomorrow!

Peter,
I'm using an ASI 1600MM for all my solar imaging at the moment.

According to the forecast, I'll be relying on others to do the imaging for the next few days.

How is AR2771 generated ?

Ken,

Need to ask: How are the designations such as "AR2771" generated ?
and what does the "A R "stand for ?

I love your regular solar imaging threads

The AR stands for "Active Area" may be just a faculae bright area with/ without visible spot.
The numbers are designated by NOAA
https://www.swpc.noaa.gov/

and updated/ shown on SpaceWeatherLive

Another fine set of images, always a pleasure to see your Sols' , especially when the conditions up here are terrible.
