Hi again everyone,
Had a session last night to image the area around the horsehead neb, the evening looked like it was going to be one of those special nights being extra dark and the seeing good, but by the time orion started getting high, well we all know the story.......high-clouds...clear...fog...clear...clou d..clear..bummer..I did manage to get about 8 good frames to stack and this was a special one capturing a Orionoid meteorite as it entered our atmosphere..
Its a single exposure of 6 min at iso 800 with 6" reflector with DF removed and processed in PS CS. I think it came out not to bad for a single frame..
Cheers Gary....
Thats a great image Gary, lovely detail in it. The meteor really sets it off perfectly, just missed the horsey's nose. Those are the classic captures that really make an image special.
Thats a pretty amazing and perfect shot!!
but its not an orionid meteor, path doesnt trace back to radiant, its path is perpendicular to what an orionid would of taken. could be a southern taurid, just possibly?
pity, that meteor may be good enough for scientific spectral study, i suspect!
I would submit it to one of the Astro magazines. I got a bit of a buzz just getting a letter published.... I am sure Houghy got a bigger buzz from his article.
Hi, thanks for all the great comments, It was a bit of a frustrating evening as it started out so well and went down hill, but this shot made up for it all.
I was not sure if I actually saw it but towards 3am I did look up and saw a meteorite just above orions belt and thought I might have caught that one..was about mag 3-4 and left a trail for maybe a sec entering from the bottom of the frame and going maybe 10 degrees?
Your right Kearn, I don`t think its a Orionoid as it was going the wrong way! But still its not everyday that one goes through a deepsky shot..
Pics are off to AS&T....fingers crossed, it will be a buzz hey..
Good going on your article Houghy...
Cheers Gary
