What fl is your scope..in fact what set up do you use...I expect you have covered it somewhere but I either missed it or more likely forgot...how good is a failing memory ..stuff that was old news last month can be fresh news this month..er perhaps even weekly...for my Dad he has it down to daily☺.
All I am getting at is ...your images are inspiring me to have a go...it has been a decade since the last time but I still have a silver thing somewhere that goes on a six inch...which I could adapt for the 8 inch.or I could use the 6 inch ed refractor I never use..I expect the 80mm fl is too short but I would prefer to use it because of ease of set up...could I use the narrow band camera to get decent images..it has HA that could work maybe...
Alex
Thanks Alex, quite enjoying your work too. The system is an Stage 1 PST conversion which is an 102m F9 achro fitted with an 90mm Baader ERF and the humble PST shoved up the focuser drawtube. So it is really working at 85mm F 10.6, you lose a few mm off the filter when mounted in its cell.
Tried to upload a photo of the scope but the attachments not working atm for some reason.
Jeff,
pretty good images there...you also show the nearby prom well!
Well done!
What camera are you using? (Did I ask this before??)
Alex,
You solar filter sounds OK for white light viewing - you should be able to record the sunspot very well. You won't get all the Ha details until you invest/ upgrade to a Ha scope (Quark, PST, Lunt)
Yes , you did ask before but at our vintage that is allowable. Camera is an ZWO290mc. Hope to have another go tomorrow. Image file uploads is still not working for me, is anyone else having this problem atm or is it just me ( again ).
Alex, if you have a white light solar filter, dust off the cobwebs and put it on the 6 inch when there are sunspots around. The 80mm would be ok as well but would be limited in resolution compared to the 6", 150mm, and the shorter focal length would make focusing a bit more fiddly too
