Thanks Derek. I hope you can get a chance to view them. After seeing and photographing comet Lovejoy on Dec 24th 2011, it really sparked my interest in the night sky and all things astronomical. Always had an interest but that was the main kickstart.
Thanks for the thought about sending it in. I will look into the procedures on how to go about it.

Nice shot Steve and good work getting it on Channel Ten. At least Kate mentioned it was a comet, unlike my picture the night before I was told her segment was cut short so she didn't have time to go into more detail. My gran said she was going to call them up and complain .

My wife just told me they were talking about the hot cross buns last night, that's why they had to cut it short.

Just a quick update to let everyone know this image made it to the news (Ch7 last night and ch 10 tonight) in Adelaide. I have tried to find the links to no avail.
Thanks for sharing this image on the IIS FB page

Here is another view from the same night. I tried all of my lenses that evening (18-55mm EF-S, nifty fifty and 55-250mm EF-S) and have been going through them. Some i wished i done better, but that is always the case with me, it's good to be self critical
This is with the 55-250mm EF-S at 109mm @f5. 1.6 sec exp, ISO-1600.
There are a few different ways i could have presented it but just chose the safe option.

Yeah that was my pic. It's in the solar system thread. I've only got an old Canon 400D and kit lens so didn't expect the greatest picture.

All I can think about is the Everybody Loves Raymond episode where Robert gets a job interview for the FBI and Marie constantly interferes to try and get Robert the job. I could just imagine Gran calling up to get Kate to put the picture up again and explain what it was all about .

Kate emailed me back today saying she was sorry she couldn't go into anymore detail because her segment was indeed cut short. I did get a few friends ask why they titled it "starry sky" and not even mention the comet!

Don't bother trying to get an online link for ch 10 as they don't put the weather up on the net.

Yeah was struggling finding a link. That's good of Kate to email us directly. Keep at it with the 400d, I found with the one I borrowed it had a bit more noise and required a bit of extra editing but still produced alright images.
Lol I can imagine re everyone loves raymond
