I took this image of the "dark" side of the Moon bathed by Earthshine last night from our study window. The study is useful for getting to the western horizon and last night in particular, for protecting me from the hammer-like blasts of an incredibly strong wind.
I used my wife's bird spotting scope on top of the Vixen GP equatorial mount for an exposure of 20 seconds at ISO 400 on my Pentax istDS DSLR.
I have "artificially" boosted the brightness of the stars in the field by using a mask in Corel PhotoPaint 12.
I like that! I did a similar thing with the moon in the pleades shot earlier this month. Its cool when you tinker with the images and all the detail starts to come out?
