The one on Fleabay for $125 I assume?

No, I personally wouldn't buy it, even for a beginner.

Without the Autostar it is pretty much useless. You can't manually move these (except pick it up and turn it). The seller is being deceptive to say otherwise.

If you can find an Autostar 494 or 497 2nd hand for less than $150 then it would make a good 1st scope.

+1.

I have been looking at this scope on eBay since it was listed. It is a shame about the missing hand controller. Bintel sell one for $195 but at that price it isn't worth purchasing this setup.

You could always ring Bintel to see if they have a 494 lying around they could sell you. If you know a price to add the missing bit, then you can make an informed choice.
