I left a bought chilli bush out last Summer- they ate half of the peppers and destroyed the foliage, and when I mean half they were all 50% gone! Maybe ran off to get a drink of water!!

Useless fact for the day:

Probably birds ? One of the proteins than senses painful heat and resides in the nerves than go to your skin (mouth etc) is called TRPV1 (transient receptor potential cation channel vanalloid type 1). It senses things that hurt above 42degC.

The mammal TRPV1 is also activated by capsaicin the essential part of chillis. Thats why it tastes hot.

The chicken TRPV1 also responds to the same painful heat, but not to the chilli ingredient. Its an evolutionary thing.

But some mammals are also less sensitive - I think rabbits and a few others
