Very nice, can see the jets clearly and the dust lanes are very nicely resolved.
A lovely 3D look as well.

That's very good seeing.
The lowest I've ever measured in Melbourne was 2" & that was with an Ha filter.
Some nights it's been 6" & I've shut down the telescope.

You've split all those stars at the bright center.
Not many people do that.

cheers

Don't know how accurate CCD Inspector is Al but It gives me an idea of how the nights going from sub to sub.

Just running through the subs again Al, April was a good month for me here, with a few subs coming in under 2" and most of the rest coming in at low 2's. So,6 hrs good Lum and 4 hrs of bad colour and 10 hrs of bad Ha....most around the 3"and 4" mark.

A couple of other projects going too with seeing not so great Al,but hey It is what It is

Has been interesting watching the diffirence seeing makes on a sub at 2000mm.....imagine what imaging at 4000mm

Yep, that's it, we can't have the best conditions all the time and unlike some who have nicely automated collection processes (and patience) most of us simply don't enjoy the luxury of picking only the very best subs from the data collected, or at least have much higher thresholds of acceptance ...so having fun is very important.

Hi Louie,
I image at 1000mm & that's even too much for Melbourne's average seeing.
Is there a "seeing" chart for Australia?

Coonabarabran & Siding Springs are the best as far as I know
but I have a feeling that some places in the desert could be good.
Also we have many mountains around 5,000 feet in altitude although
I've found on one of them - Mt Baw Baw that
wind was a real problem.
You really need a dome to act as a wind break.
It can be still on a mountain one minute & then 30 minutes
later you can get 80km per hour gusts.
No guiding system will follow that except maybe adaptive optics.

I was thinking of trying Lara - a place about 20km out of Geelong
but it would be a waste of time if the seeing was bad.

I've seen Sydney & Melbourne from aeroplanes high up at night &
it looks like a giant light mushroom over the top of them.
To think that you can get any picture at all through that is amazing.

cheers
Allan

Don't know If there's a seeing chart for OZ Al,but I would imagine there would be.

Seems to me that It would be hard to avoid the winds when in high elevation one would think.

Anyway, you need a place that's within reason so you get out there more often I recon.

I would settle for a place within a couple of hours drive of the CBD and average to good seeing, and of cause a good clear sky average throughout the year....don't want much do we.

Of cause you could just shoot in your back yard and do the best you can with It and have some fun....better than nothing mate.

To me that's a pretty good Trifid Louie. Possibly the reflection nebulosity is a bit too blue but you wouldn't be the first person to do that.

Cheers

Thanks Steve....I reduced the mid blues a bit as per M&T advise which I thought improved contrast as well.

Still,I'm not very happy with It not so much because of the seeing, but the fact that I'm having problems with flats(mechanical I think)and I haven't been able to find out why yet.

Anyway, thanks again for the feedback...much appreciated.

Looks good to me too, Louie! Detail is still very respectable despite seeing.
