My Photos downloading no longer works??

I need some advice, please, as something has gone wrong with the downloading of my images?

I have a Canon M50 camera and normally download from the camera to Window’s Photos. It suddenly stopped downloading. Photos says that it is downloading, but then fails to progress any further.
I found that Photos will still download images from my Smart Phone.

I have brought a new connecting cable for the camera, but to no avail.
I put in a new camera battery, but still no good.
I have taken the SD card in and out.
I have tried over several days, with off course the computer and the camera both being turned completely off and on.
I have tried different USB slots on both the front and the back of the computer.

I am not aware of the camera being bumped or damaged in any way.

ANY SUGGESTIONS MADE IN GOOD FAITH WILL BE APPRECIATED.

Have you tried putting the card into a reader?

Hi everybody,

Thanks for the replies.

I eventually sort the help of a computer tech who was also into photography. He said that he had previously seen this problem.

He turned off 'Photos' so that the camera would not try to download automatically on connection.

From there, I can now go into Devices and Drives and download directly from the Canon Drive and save the images directly into pictures.


Below are the boring step by step details for the downloading into my computer, which runs on Windows 10.

Click on:
File Explorer
This PC
Canon EOS 50
SID
DCIM
100 Canon
Then the image that U wish to save.
