F1 - Hungary Qualifying Sat 26 Jul 2014 21:30 AEST ONE HD
Coverage of this weekend's Qualifying session for the Hungarian Grand Prix
takes place on Sat 26 Jul 2014 starting at 21:30 AEST on ONE HD.
Coverage of the race itself on Sunday will also be on ONE HD and begins
just before the race start at 21:55 AEST.
After the recent successes of Bottas, it will be interesting to see how Williams
go on this short, narrow, winding track.
It is usually warm at this time of year in Hungary and this weekend is
no exception with tops expected around 31C.
Saturday is expected to be fine but to make things interesting, thunderstorms
are expected on the Sunday.
Meantime in F1 news, Mexico City will be on the 2015 F1 calendar.

How dare you post about F1 and not mention Lewis Hamilton
(Sorry, been reading the various F1 forums and it's getting a bit much. Fast becoming a Nico fan).

What does Lewis Hamilton have to do to get a break? His car just caught fire in Q1. Hamilton out of qualifying for the second race in a row.

What an absolute ball-tearer of a race, brilliant stuff. Go Daniel. The mind boggles what he would do if the RB had a better power unit.

Absolutely incredible!
When you can overtake the likes of Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso
and in particular overtake a 2014 Mercedes, on a track where it is
very difficult to overtake at the best of times, then you are, by definition,
a fantastic driver.
He stuck it to them.

Brilliant race and a great result for Ricciardo. Interesting to see the profound congratulations from Alonso post-race.

Brilliant entertaining race.
Well done Daniel
Good on Lewis for telling the team to stuff letting Nico overtaking him,
I am beginning to see a pattern of the team favouring Nico,"German Driver in a German car"
The fascard of letting them race is gradually fading.
It is getting beyond a joke with the problems Lewis is having with his car that are not of his making
Yes he has done a couple himself but Nico 1 DNF through car problems,Lewis three or is it more
Cheers

Awesome drive from Ricciardo. He got very lucky with that first safety car, but drove a brilliant race from there to make it pay off. And when you have to overtake to win, you've earned it

I need to draw breath and watch the race again, but didn't Mercedes split strategies and have Nico on the faster tyre? It seemed a straight forward decision for Mercedes to request Nico be let through and run his strategy. That was their best option to get one of them to first place.

And as Lewis told his bosses,
"If he can catch up to me, i will let him past"
Now i understand Nico was in disturbed air,
but at that point in the race, he wasnt going faster.
It was only when he got new tyres that he got moving.
Maybe Mercedes should have brought him in a few laps earlier???????

Well, we all know (I hope) what the Hungaroring is like when trying to overtake a car, especially with equal equipment

Gday Doug
I thought there was way more overtaking and racing than normal in the race. ( unlike the boring "follow the leader" type races that are the norm )
If it was so hard to catch up and overtake a quality car, then Daniel would have finished in third.
Nico simply ran out of tyres and paid the price for staying out too long.
( same as Fernado and Lewis came a cropper at the end due to older tyres )

The overtaking on, was it turn four?, around the outside by a couple of drivers was very cool to watch.
I think Nico was definitely not close enough to Hami to justify a pull over at that stage of the race. He could have got Hami at turn four around the outside on the last lap but was outplayed by the master himself. Hami is no fool and he saw it coming. I think Nico was playing a game against his team as he realises Hami is his no1 contender for the title. It just didn't pay off.
Alonso at the award ceremony was the most subdued I think I have seen him. He must be thinking what do I have to do to get on the top podium again?

Yes, as I said I need to watch that one again, and drink it all in.
I got the impression at the time, when Nico came steaming up on LH, Mercedes were expecting Nico to be let through. By the time they realised that wasn't going to happen, the tyres were on the way out, and they pitted him.
Still trying to work out how Seb got away with that spin on the straight too. I felt a bit sorry for Bottas and Massa - can't work out why Williams went to mediums that early.
It's amusing watching all the "favored German team, German driver" nonsense (Rosberg is half Finnish, essentially regards himself as from Monaco, and the team is essentially English - it's the ex-Brawn that was the ex-Honda team!). It does make me realise how silly I must have looked when all that Webber realiability/conspiracy/#2 driver stuff was going over past few years. Outside looking in thing

Rosberg considers himself German,He was born in Germany.like all big money men is a tax exile in Monaco, when the money stops they go else where.
I am sure Lewis Hamilton is having thoughts along the lines of team favouritism.
Tell the Men in Munchen that Mercedes is British, and they will string you up from the highest flag pole
Cheers

Boeing, Lotus, 3D printing and F1 cars
A recent three minute ad by Boeing showcases how they work with the Lotus F1 Team
on additive manufacturing using carbon fiber.
Boeing claim that the upside for them is that testing these technologies
on the cars every week saves them an enormous amount of money that
they would otherwise have to spend on simulations.
Boeing then incorporate what they learn from running the F1 cars
into aircraft manufacturing.
