Light Pollution - possible driver of "Insect Apocalypse"

There are claims that light pollution is helping to drive the "Insect Apocalypse": https://www.theguardian.com/environm...ect-apocalypse

So, the (potential) evidence is mounting for the negatives of light pollution with this as the latest addition.

Unfortunately, I suspect most light polluters will, as usual, not give any care to their actions and will continue their ways...

Must be a big problem for Bogongs which migrate and navigate at night. They are also pollinators of many trees.

The problem can be cost. Try convincing a university or a club that their car park could be lit with a greater number of lower , less powerful lights at a much greater cost. Lighting only the dark surface as required and perhaps the opportunity to automate lower power lights would have to be an improvement from a light pollution perspective over tall poles with higher power lights.

Indeed, modern LED lights are much easier to control and also to direct than high pressure sodium or fluorescent lamps.
Many modern LED streetlamps do not direct any light upwards.
But many companies or councils are not willing to mitigate unnecessary lighting, mostly because electricity is cheap.
