Some of you may have seen me in the news about a month ago. I'm an astrophysicist, and I got magnets stuck in my nose after tinkering with them to build a device to stop people touching their faces... If you missed the story, and you'd like a laugh, please read the original article: https://www.theguardian.com/australi...navirus-device
I have been a member here since 2012, after buying some items, but sadly haven't really participated in 8 years. I have returned because a friend of mine just purchased a new astrophotography rig and it got me longing to get my telescope out again. I figured I'd introduce myself with my story that hopefully puts a smile on some faces
I've herd of (well, may have actual experience) in difficult to remove snot, but honestly, what made you think snot was magnetic, or even para-magnetic?
It's what pinkie fingers are designed for - don't over invent the wheel.
Yeah. i saw that on the news...i don't think people are going to forget that soon. Anyway, it will be good to hear from an astrophysicist. If my maths has been better that would have been a possible career path. As it is i ended up a middle manager in the public service :-) But i have employed an astronomy PhD as a data analyst. And i know of many others that ended up in that sort of work...transferable skills and all that. Kudos for fessing up to the magnets thing.
Daniel, your mishap gave me an idea - how to firmly attach dial bracket to my lathe, for precision readout of tool position... and to be easily removable at the same time . I used Ø8mm Neodymium magnets (I found them in some old faulty toys, and until now I kept them on kitchen fridge door... I think this application is much more useful.
Picture is self-explanatory

I remember reading that on FB. Any lingering issues like inability to use a magnetic compass anymore?
