Playing with Fire

Just a bit of fun on cooler nights for an idiot.
A coffee tin with various holes in place to let drafts in and various chemicals (harmless powders mostly) creating colour with a small amount of methylated spirits in the bottom of the tin.

Overall I call them Fire Spirits.

I call the image "Bashful"

Thanks David!
There's no telling what I'm going to get and playing with different lenses trying not to shoot directly overhead and damage camera and lens but I've gotten some nice shots.
Problem is I see faces in everything (but don't remember people I know), Pareidolia, and I shoot WAY too many images when I have the fire out in the yard (and hose standing by) and choosing what images I want to play with out of the 700 I took last night is hard. That's without going through the 500 I took the other night. Hopefully my Nikon came with a magic shutter that will hit 1,000,000 on it's original shutter mechanism, LOL

Image on left I call "Inner Peace", image on right I call it "Ceremonial".
People without my weird affliction of seeing faces everywhere I look (in a not so crowded country town) may not see what I see.

I was going to ask in that other thread what you were doing taking photos of fire in a coffee can. Glad you started this thread so I could see. Awesome shots mate. Not easy getting the perfect shot with a subject that's so dynamic. Great handling of light and the background.

I remember doing a video shoot for a musician who wanted to show a flautist blowing out a candle with their flute. The problem was getting the candle to smoke heavily after it went out. Lots of takes before I ended up with the special one. I became an expert on candles that day!

Really nice pics mate. You must be happy with them.

Thanks Dean!
Lighting is fire light only, I play with ISO, aperture and shutter along with focus while I shoot, standing on a step ladder out in the dark, it's all fun till the old fool falls and breaks something, the camera would be the worst but I can do without another broken ankle/leg/nose/jaw/ribs/CRAP, what haven't I broken over the years riding motorbikes and doing martial arts, not neck, back or an arm thankfully, every toe, every finger, both ankles, left leg in 7 places, every rib. I should rattle when I walk but miraculously I don't. That will be for when I finally fall off the step ladder out in the dark.
As long as my camera and lens survives I heal.

I used to set up shots back in the 70s and 80s, still, movie and video, now I just play to entertain myself but I like sharing my images, many have found an occasional image pleasant over the years.

Just something to entertain myself with.
The can design was done by my son just playing with chemical propulsion of a sorts just messing around basically. I just do the photography and find things like Movicol which give pretty colours (of all things).

This one I call "Scream"
I put an IMDB poster in for reference

Sorry, final playing with these images I'll share here
I still have hundreds I want to play with but I won't fill the forum up with my stupidity.

All colours are adjusted but not changed, enhanced but colours are what is in the fire with the additives burning. Shaken but not stirred!
The name's Ken, Chi Ken

Thanks Steve!

Potasium Permangate for the pink/purple/sparkle.
A compound which should be in everyone's camping first aid kit, for scratches, purifying water, general disinfectant and most importantly, a little Glycerine in same kit (for ant/bee/wasp stings (draws the toxins out)) and you have the best fire starter money can buy, just don't put the PP (Condy's Crystals for us older fellows) near the glycerine or sugar, same fire starter mixed with sugar.

I actually considered trying to make a two part capsule like the snap (chemical) light sticks but the risk of breakage during travel would be a huge hazard, especially if no one knew it was in your kit and it ignited.

Last one I promise, I found this one going through the entire card, not my previous picks listed in a notepad document.
