Smile Ngc2516

Been a long while since I last posted here in the forums, but it's good to be back

NGC2516, the Diamond Cluster (a.k.a the Southern Beehive), is an open cluster in the constellation of Carina. It was discovered in 1752 by Abbe Lacaille. It's easily visible to the naked eye about 2 degrees away from the star Avior (epsilon Car). It lies around 1300ly away. Along with the recently discovered open cluster Mamajek 2, the cluster is believed to be around 135mya and both clusters most probably formed in the same star forming region. Pic was taken with t68 at iTelescope, in Bathurst (Celestron RASA, 280mm, f/2.2, 620mm/ZWO ASI1600MC-C.), 15x60sec subs.
